Gift to America 2.0:
We recognize the power of art to speak on complex subjects, explore cultural contexts, inspire dialogue, heal and rejuvenate the spirit and social well-being of communities. GTA 2.0 is a way to activate multiple perspectives, histories and experiences through art and education. In 2021, we introduced Gift to America 2.0: New Voices. New Walls. with the support of the Opportunity Fund and the Pittsburgh Foundation.
Now, thanks to renewed and increased support of the Opportunity Fund, The Pittsburgh Foundation and the Arts Equity & Education Fund, we’re excited to announce another round of commissions for BIPOC and/or Immigrant artists within 150 miles of Pittsburgh.
We seek artists (individuals, collaborative duos and artist collectives) whose work has the power to inspire, rejuvenate and transform communities towards greater connection. Drawing inspiration from Maxo Vanka’s themes of justice, injustice, immigrant experience and/or motherhood, artists are to interpret, reimagine these themes through their lived experience and create an artwork ready to exhibit, perform, and share with audiences of all ages.
The opportunity: (4) $5,000 Artist(s) Commission + Exhibition(s) + up to $2,000 additional per artist for creative engagement with the community.
