Welcome to the Vanka Murals

360° Virtual Tour

We’re pleased to provide this virtual opportunity to experience Maxo Vanka’s Gift to America from wherever you are! Like a visit to St. Nicholas Church, your purchase of a virtual tour helps support our mission to save and share the Vanka Murals for generations to come.

A few things to know before you get started.

You will get a unique access key and link to the virtual tour that you can use on your computer, tablet, or phone. You may explore the murals as many times as you like on different devices using the same access key for up to 10 days from the date of purchase. You’re welcome to invite family and friends to view the tour with you but you will not be able to forward or share the access key.

We designed the virtual tour around a series of 360° images of the interior of Saint Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church. You will be able to control a lot of the experience by panning and zooming. The tour includes about 30 minutes of guided audio commentary to give you insights into Maxo Vanka, the murals, and their historical and cultural contexts.

At the beginning of the virtual tour, our narrator, Pittsburgh playwright, actor and friend of the murals, Wali Jamal, provides directions on how to use the controls and navigate the experience. At the end of the tour (or at a click of a button if you want to jump right there) we do a “deep dive” into a specific topic related to the murals (e.g. conservation). This additional information will change periodically.

We’ll ask you to respond to a survey at the end of your viewing period. Tell us about your virtual tour experience and help us improve it for others with your feedback. Respond within two weeks and claim a 20% discount in the Vanka Store. Thank you!

We hope you’ll enjoy the virtual tour and then visit us in person. You may recommend the virtual tour to others by sharing this page.

This virtual tour has been made possible by a Capacity Building Grant from the Arts Equity Reimagined Fund. With many, many thanks to the talented production team behind this new way to experience the Vanka Murals: Becky Gaugler, Wali Jamal, Jim Ledoux/JHL Media, Eric Menninger, Lynne Squilla, and Blender Inc.

We recognize there may be various barriers to accessing on-site programs at the Murals. Virtual programs led by Vanka Educators are available for audiences unable to attend in-person tours, but still interested in conversation, community, and learning opportunities. Interested in a virtual program for your group, classroom or other remote locations? Contact Becky: bgaugler@vankamurals.org.
