We’re pleased to provide this virtual opportunity to experience Maxo Vanka’s murals from wherever you are! Like a visit to St. Nicholas Church, your purchase of a virtual tour helps support our mission to save and share the Vanka Murals for generations to come.
Born Maximilian Vanka in 1889, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, later becoming a professor. He arrived in Millvale in 1937 and again in 1941 to create the Vanka Murals at St. Nicholas Church.
In May 2008, the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka staged Gift to America, bringing the murals to life with support from the Pennsylvania Labor Center at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
