Art Action

We were inspired by the premiere of “Act of Sister.” A tribute to women inspired by the Vanka Murals by interdisciplinary artist Alisha Wormsley.

Event decor including the activist printmaking of Mary Tremonte and members of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative.

Hands-on screenprinting activity with AIR (Artists Image Resource) to create a piece of activist art to take home with you, featuring graphics from Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative

Program: 1941 – 1991

We experienced the “wallpaper” years of Maxo Vanka’s famed murals, when decades of Pittsburgh weather, pollution and lack of lighting left them dark, damaged, misunderstood and nearly forgotten.

We heard the story of how a handful of activists helped kick-start awareness and efforts to save these priceless works of art, creating a masterpiece of historical theater in the process.

Special appearance by founding members of the Iron Clad Agreement reading from Dr. David Demarest’s “Gift To America.”
