Heinz Endowments’ Challenge

More than 200 individuals have “made the match.” Generous contributions at all levels, from near and far, have helped to unlock the $30,000 from the Heinz Endowments as of September 30th!

“The Heinz Endowments is very pleased to play a role in the preservation of these powerful murals. A hidden gem for Pittsburgh, they are excellent representations of both the American mural movement of the ‘30s and ‘40s, and of Pittsburgh’s important immigrant populations. They are a true Pittsburgh treasure.”
– Janet Sarbaugh, The Heinz Endowments

Conservation of the Battlefield Scenes continues on pace, and preparations for lighting the unforgettable quartet of 1941 Murals at the rear of the Church: Christ on the Battlefield, Mary on the Battlefield, The Capitalist and Simple Family Meal, are underway.  By early 2018, conservation and lighting of 12 Murals — the halfway mark! — will be completed.

Additional generous support for the project includes: the Snee Reinhardt Charitable Foundation, the Opportunity Fund and many individual donors.
